Events | Leap in the City

What happens when a group of top-notch wedding industry vendors get together and throw a party? Well, naturally a spectacular party. Event planners Michelle Soll of Burlap & Brooches and Sara Fried of Fête Nashville approached Design in August to join forces with other area vendors and create an event that would feature downtown Nashville’s newest enclosed all-weather event space. The space itself is not new – Sambuca is a lively restaurant and bar that features live music every night and along with a scrumptious menu. But Sambuca only recently enclosed their Sky Loft, which now makes it a year-round event space with an urban vibe and primo view of downtown Nashville.

Design in August provided the logo and paper designs to coordinate with a pre-set color scheme of candy apple red, citron and charcoal gray. What began as a staged photoshoot to capture the space and vendor talent (by the keen eye of Gregory Byerline), later turned into an industry party open to 150+ guests! The flowers, the linens, the food and fun all came together beautifully.

Cocktail stir sticks added a fun pop to the apple Leap-tinis. Yum! While place cards and buffet menus dressed up the tablescapes.

And finally, here are the guilty parties, er… vendors that teamed up to make Leap in the City possible. Stationery | Our Wedding Ephemera

An invitation sets the tone for your event.  It conveys the feeling and experience your guests can expect – formal or casual, traditional or non-traditional, modern or vintage, elegant, whimsical, destination, and so on.  Your invitation sets the stage for the show, and your ephemera should play it out.

With a background in advertising and design, I use the elements of design as tools to communicate a brand message.  I approach stationery design in the same way.  All of the paper goods leading up to and experienced during a wedding, a charity gala, or other social gathering, are all tools used to communicate a cohesive brand message – your message!

Once the tone and look of our own wedding was set by our invitation suite, these pieces followed.  A program for our wedding liturgy, Escort Cards leading guests to tables named after various swing greats of the 30s & 40s, a lunch Menu at each place setting, and personal Thank You cards to mail guests after our event.

The paper goods throughout the weekend carried the look of our invitation suite.

A program for guests included the wedding liturgy and as well as details regarding the reception location.

This little vintage wedding couple also appeared on our RSVP postcards!

Did I mention that these Candy Apple Red bridesmaid dresses inspired the color of our printed pieces?

Each guest arrived to our reception to find their Escort Cards standing up on wine corks.  Many took theirs home as a memento!Tables named after the Greats of the Swing Era.

Don’t you love how playful hand drawn calligraphy can be?  I adore the “M” in Menu.

Perhaps my favorite piece: Kids’ Menu complete with vintage mustached Chef!  Vintage toys also waited for each young guest.

Completing the entire paper collection:  Thank You notes to mail our guests, also featuring calligraphy script.
