Events | Leap in the City

What happens when a group of top-notch wedding industry vendors get together and throw a party? Well, naturally a spectacular party. Event planners Michelle Soll of Burlap & Brooches and Sara Fried of Fête Nashville approached Design in August to join forces with other area vendors and create an event that would feature downtown Nashville’s newest enclosed all-weather event space. The space itself is not new – Sambuca is a lively restaurant and bar that features live music every night and along with a scrumptious menu. But Sambuca only recently enclosed their Sky Loft, which now makes it a year-round event space with an urban vibe and primo view of downtown Nashville.

Design in August provided the logo and paper designs to coordinate with a pre-set color scheme of candy apple red, citron and charcoal gray. What began as a staged photoshoot to capture the space and vendor talent (by the keen eye of Gregory Byerline), later turned into an industry party open to 150+ guests! The flowers, the linens, the food and fun all came together beautifully.

Cocktail stir sticks added a fun pop to the apple Leap-tinis. Yum! While place cards and buffet menus dressed up the tablescapes.

And finally, here are the guilty parties, er… vendors that teamed up to make Leap in the City possible. In the Studio | Paper Goods for Baby

As many of you know, there will very (very) soon be the pitter-patter of little feet running around the Studio. Well, more like the sweet lullaby of newborn cries at all hours of the day (and night!), but you catch my drift. Mr. G and I are thrilled about the soon-to-be arrival of our little “Baby G” and I wanted to give you a peek into a recent personal project: party favors and thank you notes for our baby shower guests.

One of the millions of things I can’t wait to share with our little “Baby G” is the fun of watching hot air balloons sail nearby – sometimes directly over – our house. They seem to be a popular sport in this corner of the world, and I can just imagine the look of wonder in our little one’s eyes as they float by our front door, so close you could almost reach up and touch them! Thus came my inspiration for these pieces: hot air balloons + pennants + 2-dimensional geometric patterns. And since we are waiting to find out of “Baby G” is a he or a she, I worked in a gender neutral color palette of aqua blues, pistachio greens, and burnt orange, capped off with chocolate brown accents. Horton of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who seems to approve.

Parting favors for shower guests: yogurt-covered pretzels with a message from Baby G. All wrapped up in celo + baker’s twine.

“I hope you enjoy this little snack half as much as my mommy does. She’s been CRAVING them every day. Love, Baby Grubb”

Flat cards for a thank you message + whimsical envelopes liners. Up, up and away!

Sweet little details: a hot air balloon seals the envelope shut, while a Mark Twain stamp keeps with the “ragtime era” vintage feel.

Stationery | “M” is for Martin

The newly minted Mrs. Martin wanted to give her hubby a unique & personalized birthday gift. Since the lovebirds had recently tied the knot – and merged their copious libraries – a custom embosser made for a perfect gift! An elegant “M” design and the words “From the library of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Martin” do just the trick for this his & hers emblem. Happy embossing to the new Mr. & Mrs.!

Stationery | Christmas Card + Matching Gift Tag

“Bright wishes…” indeed! I was delighted to design this Christmas card and matching gift tag for Lindsay. We talked about using traditional colors of red or green or gold, but when she mentioned possibly going for bolder, non-traditional gem colors, we went for it! A royal purple bellyband with their family initial dresses up this 5″x 7″ greeting. Lindsay then slipped a 4″x 6″ family photo loosely inside the band and on top of the card. That way friends and family could pull out the photo and frame it as they wished. A custom return address rubber stamp (not pictured) in the same font families completed the look of the chartreuse envelopes, while this coordinating 3″x 3″ gift tag completed her holiday gift wrapping in style. The best part is these gift tags will last her year round – birthdays, weddings, baby showers, you name it! With chartreuse & royal purple dressing up this Christmas card and gift tag set, how could they be anything but “bright” wishes?!

Branding + Stationery | It’s All in the Details

“Clean, modern, Paris, Madrid…” These were a few of the words given to me by Sarah at Music City Events to describe the style and look for the Little Black Dress Revue. Mmm! I hear Paris and Madrid and immediately my mind goes to beaux arts and all things art deco. But a modern twist, of course! If you missed the inspiration board post on this project, you can check it out here. Pieces included cocktail bar signs, cocktail stir sticks, catering food cards, the Grand Prize certificate, and the event program given out to each guest, including a list of participating vendors. These were all designed to showcase the kinds of custom paper goods Design in August can create for any event in a smartly branded and cohesive look. Yellows and grays combined with a stylish European fan pattern and a nod to art deco in the font – all the details came together so nicely in this fun and lively suite, wouldn’t you agree?

Little Black Dress a Smashing Success!

Ladies and Gents, the Little Black Dress Revue was a delightful evening! Masterfully pulled together by 17 of Nashville’s finest vendors and spearheaded by the talented Sarah Willard, this was one swanky trade show. The venue, the lights and draping, the catering, the bar tending, the live music, the flipbook photobooth (can’t wait to show you this one tomorrow!) – it all came together seamlessly and I am so pleased with Design in August’s showing. I had the opportunity to chat with lovely brides, as well as network with fellow vendors. And one lovely bride won a $5,000 Grand Prize! Stellar. I wish all trade shows would grow up to be like this one when they get older! I recently had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Sarah Willard of Music City Events here in Nashville. And the timing could not have been better!
