Inspiration | Vance Suite

1.  Make like Alice at Vin de Syrah wine parlor.  San Diego.  Order the Mixed Board along with paired wines.
2.  Offer a hint.  A Hint Mint.
3.  Pantone’s Spring 2011 color palette from NY’s Fashion Week.  Peapod.
4.  Merckens Rainbow Light Green Wafers from jomart chocolatesBecause life tastes better with chocolate.
5.  A pair of bird cages in painted white metal work.  Perfect for a garden party.
6.  Monique Lhuillier.  Ready to Wear.  Spring 2o11.  Pale peapod whimsy.  Yes, please.

Inspiration | Little Black Dress Revue

1.  Deep Yellow – Wouldn’t this fabric make for a sunny accent pillow?
2.  Slate – Pale gray to balance the pops of yellow.
3.  Graphite – The sheen in this photo inspired the shimmery bellyband holding the LBDR Programs shut.  Mmm, printed on a pretty Petallics pearlescent paper.  Can’t wait to show you!
4.  Pale Yellow – A sugary, soft yellow. Color palette and images 1-4 provided by Music City Events.
5.  LBDR logo – My logo design developed out of key words provided by Sarah at Music City Events: clean, modern, Paris, Madrid… What began forming in my mind was a new take on Art Deco style of the 1920s.  That, and a little playful nod to “the bubbly.”
6.  Art Deco patterns – This is a classic repetitive pattern seen across Art Deco prints.  Very graphic and bold.  photo Google Images
7.  Dress by Oscar de la Renta – don’t you just love this dress?!  I fell in love with the graphic lines and patterns.  So crisp and playful!  These inspired some of the accent patterns in my LBDR printed pieces.  photo Google Images

I’ve been seeing grays & yellows all week.  Only 1 day to go until the swankiest bridal event of the season: The Little Black Dress Revue! The last file has gone to the printer, a few more finishing details today, and then I just need to decide which little black dress to wear.  I am excited to mix and mingle with some of Nashville’s best vendors, as well as Nashville’s lovely brides!  Check back later this week to see photos of Tuesday’s event and my custom paper goods designed for LBDR.

Branding | Self-Promotional Mailer

With the popularity of social media these days, a tangible piece of personal mail seems all the more precious.  Wouldn’t you like to receive a pretty package like this in your mail box?  A stack of these went out this week to introduce my Studio to local event planners, including my business card, a hand-written note and a sample of a recent design project: our New Address | New Announcement mailer (to be featured on the blog later this week!).

Whether you are a popular storefront, a personally-owned business operating out of your home office, or an individual looking to promote your upcoming event, consider what an impact a thoughtful and attractive piece of direct mail might have for you.  Interested?  I would welcome the opportunity to chat with you about it.  Cheers!

Pretty packages tied up with string!  Colorful stamps in shades of browns, black and greens add a bit of whimsy.

Bon Voyage!

Today is a happy day.  Today is the day Design in August launches its blog!  I have recently referred to this project as the “cobbler’s child.”  You know… the shoemaker’s kid without shoes?  Client work has been steadily streaming through my office door, and all summer and into the fall I have let the launch of my own website take the back seat.  Until now!

Like the old tradition of blessing a new sea-worthy vessel for her maiden voyage, I feel compelled to raise a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut and *smash* it against my desk as I say, “Bon Voyage!” to this inaugural blog post.  But rather than waste a perfectly lovely bottle of the French bubbly (and risk flooding my Mac), instead perhaps I’ll pour myself a flute and raise it to you, my new readers and dear friends.  Thank you for your love and support and encouragement.  I’m excited about this journey into the blogosphere, as well as sharing my most recent and precious projects with you!  A bit of brand design, a bit of stationery, a bit of inspiration, and the occasional peek into my studio.  Cheers to the future of!
