Little Black Dress a Smashing Success!

Ladies and Gents, the Little Black Dress Revue was a delightful evening!  Masterfully pulled together by 17 of Nashville’s finest vendors and spearheaded by the talented Sarah Willard, this was one swanky trade show.  The venue, the lights and draping, the catering, the bar tending, the live music, the flipbook photobooth (can’t wait to show you this one tomorrow!) – it all came together seamlessly and I am so pleased with Design in August’s showing.  I had the opportunity to chat with lovely brides, as well as network with fellow vendors.  And one lovely bride won a $5,000 Grand Prize!  Stellar.  I wish all trade shows would grow up to be like this one when they get older!  Detail photos of my printed designs coming later today, but for now enjoy these uber fabulous pre-event shots courtesy of sharp-shooter Gregory Byerline.

Cocktails bar sign and my cocktail stir sticks.

Stationery samples out for display.

Oh! Sneaky peek at my Larrabee Suite. Coming soon!

Isn’t the Noah Liff fabulous?!  Mr. G’s reaction: “We need to throw our
10th anniversary party there!” And 20th… and 30th…

Catering cards on the buffet table.

“Soon to be Mrs.”

His & Hers drinks.  These stir sticks were an absolute delight for party-goers (and vendors!).

Yours truly with the lovely Sarah.  Thank you again for a great evening, girl!

Branding | Santa Croce Brochure

I got the opportunity to work on a fun project this summer.  Joel Smythe over at The Graphics Lab called me and asked me to team up on a brochure project.  The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Santa Croce) is an international, Pontifical university located in the heart of Rome, teaching students who are drawn to serve God and his Church, in their diocese or religious institutes, or in the professional world. A Christian university sitting one block off the Piazza Navona in Rome?!  I think I need to do a little much-needed on-site client research.  And pasta eating.

Joel’s client, a foundation here in the U.S. that exists to raise awareness and financial support for Santa Croce, needed a brochure for an event in Wisconsin, but then also for further circulation and promotion.  We had a little over one week to develop this 16 page brochure for a 2,000 piece run.  I came up with the overall look and layout, per Joel’s direction and client management.  I sifted through hundreds of pics, then selected, color-corrected and prepared them for press.  Overall, this project was a pleasure to work on and for such a good cause!

Branding | Self-Promotional Mailer

With the popularity of social media these days, a tangible piece of personal mail seems all the more precious.  Wouldn’t you like to receive a pretty package like this in your mail box?  A stack of these went out this week to introduce my Studio to local event planners, including my business card, a hand-written note and a sample of a recent design project: our New Address | New Announcement mailer (to be featured on the blog later this week!).

Whether you are a popular storefront, a personally-owned business operating out of your home office, or an individual looking to promote your upcoming event, consider what an impact a thoughtful and attractive piece of direct mail might have for you.  Interested?  I would welcome the opportunity to chat with you about it.  Cheers!

Pretty packages tied up with string!  Colorful stamps in shades of browns, black and greens add a bit of whimsy.

Bon Voyage!

Today is a happy day.  Today is the day Design in August launches its blog!  I have recently referred to this project as the “cobbler’s child.”  You know… the shoemaker’s kid without shoes?  Client work has been steadily streaming through my office door, and all summer and into the fall I have let the launch of my own website take the back seat.  Until now!

Like the old tradition of blessing a new sea-worthy vessel for her maiden voyage, I feel compelled to raise a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Brut and *smash* it against my desk as I say, “Bon Voyage!” to this inaugural blog post.  But rather than waste a perfectly lovely bottle of the French bubbly (and risk flooding my Mac), instead perhaps I’ll pour myself a flute and raise it to you, my new readers and dear friends.  Thank you for your love and support and encouragement.  I’m excited about this journey into the blogosphere, as well as sharing my most recent and precious projects with you!  A bit of brand design, a bit of stationery, a bit of inspiration, and the occasional peek into my studio.  Cheers to the future of DesignInAugust.com!
